Gil’s
career in filmmaking started wide and hand held on a Bell & Howell
16 Filmo. As a young boy in Dayton Ohio, summers were spent riding along
with his Dad, a local television news reporter for WHIO. Whenever a wide
establishing shot was needed, Gil would shoot his Dad’s stand up
with the fire, accident or other news event in the background. The thrill
of seeing his footage on the evening news set him firmly on his path.
While studying film theory, scriptwriting,
production and the technical aspects of film & video at The Ohio State University, Gil applied
his knowledge to over 20 film projects. While an undergrad, Gil produced
the short film, “The Greater Good”. Funded in part from a
grant from the Ohio Arts Council and an equipment donation from the Wexner
Center for the Arts. The film premiered at the Wexner Center to much
acclaim. He graduated from Ohio State with a degree in Photography and
Cinema and went on to work for Icon Studios, where he began working on
projects for Petland Corporation, Wexner-Hillel Foundation and numerous
short films and music videos.
